Yes, it’s that time of year again. ExFest time! Join us October 14th at 5PM in the John Flaxman Screening Room (MacLean 1307).Until then, enjoy these of pieces from last year’s ExFest!

Refreshments will be served during the intermission and an award ceremony will close out the evening. Awards will be given by our lovely judges:

Tommy Heffron is a filmmaker, performer and teacher from out west and down south but has laid his head in Chicago for the past 9 years. His individual and collaborative work has shown here, there and over there. Recently he has served as a programmer and house manager for the 2016 Chicago Underground Film Festival. He has taught the community how to make movies in palaces both low and high. (Tommy has received an Honorable Mention at the 27th Onion City Experimental Film Festival, begun production on his third feature film Lilypad and currently heads the training department at CAN TV: Chicago’s public access station.)

Christopher Ottinger is a Chicago based artist and educator. He earned his MFA in Studio Arts from Washington University in St. Louis and his BA at Columbia College Chicago in Film/Video Directing. Ottinger uses various media technologies to envision new histories and alternative uses for technical objects, employing an “object oriented” approach to Media Archaeology. His art has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe, including the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Laumeier Sculpture Park, The Museum London in Ontario, Canada, and recent solo exhibitions at the Chicago Artists Coalition and Bert Green Fine Art in Chicago. Ottinger is the recipient of the 2014 Visiting Artist Fellowship at the Pacific Northwest College of Art’s Critical Theory + Creative Research Program. He is currently a Lecturer in the department of Film, Video, New Media, and Animation at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Julia Grace Sharpe is a graduate student in Film Video New Media and Animation at SAIC. She has studied and worked in both London and Buenos Aires and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. Working primarily in 16mm, she is interested in the construction of the female body in both political and private contexts. Her current project chronicles, documents and reconstructs her mother’s life between the ages of ten and thirty, as told to her by her mother and re-enacted by herself.
