Time is running out! SUBMIT: EXFEST 2018

June is halfway over! We’re just as shocked as you are.

We recently opened up our submissions for ExFEST 2018 and asked everyone to submit (which you can find here!) ExFEST is ExTV’s annual film festival organized and run by ExTV’s student-led team for videomakers/filmmakers of all kinds. Open to all forms of video art, our film festival allows students to compete for a chance to showcase their best work in front of a ExTV-selected jury, win festival awards, and to experience and enjoy an event dedicated to moving image! Our festival is open to all currently enrolled students of SAIC and recent graduates of 2018 (this includes Fall 2017 graduates). ExFEST 2018 is our 13th annual film festival, and we’re excited to see what’s in store.

Our submission deadline is July 1st, which is just around the corner! Though it is still quite a bit of time, summer goes by quickly so we urge everyone to submit earlier if possible! Those who submit will be notified of their status on August 28. ExFEST will be taking place in October this Fall.

Who can submit?

There are no department restrictions on submissions. We accept work from all across the school including fashion, sculpture, painting/drawing students who make work at the intersections of moving image and other mediums. Submissions are open to current students and recently graduated students who have graduated in Fall 2017 or Spring 2018 or Summer 2018.

What kind of videos/film can I submit?
We accept all genres of video art. This can include:
– Experimental
– Narrative
– Performance
– Music video
– Documentaries
– Satire
– Animation
– And much, much, more.
We pride ourselves in the diverse community of video art at SAIC, so don’t be afraid to submit your work. We encourage to keep it longer than 2 minutes, though we keep in mind animated works can be short. You can SUBMIT MORE THAN ONE WORK, which can increase your chances of getting in!

How can I submit my work?
You can upload directly to our Google Drive or provide a pre-screener (downloadable) link through the ExFEST application here.

How will the works be selected?
The ExTV team will review all submissions after applications end July 1st. Selected works will be chosen by August 28, 2018, and all applicants will be notified through email. The festival will be held some time in October; the date will be chosen come fall semester.

Where is ExFEST held?
ExFEST is held right here on campus and will be held in our John M. Flaxman Screening Room in Maclean Room 1307.

Will there be prizes for the winners?
Yes! Our winners will receive awards and various (non-monetary) prizes at ExFEST.
